Eight members of the leadership team at Life Care Center of Tucson, Arizona, recently earned certification as dementia care specialists.
The group completed the training through the Crisis Prevention Institute, with Erin Stanley, regional rehab director for Life Care Centers of America’s local facilities, serving as their instructor. Each of the Life Care Center of Tucson associates completed and passed their certification exam, with the final one finishing in March 2017.
“Fully understanding the stages of dementia provides me with an enhanced ability to anticipate responses from the people we serve,” said Paul O’Connell, executive director and one of the recently certified leaders. “Having an added level of understanding from our clinicians has made our grand rounds more informative for our line staff and overall care planning.”
Along with O’Connell, the new dementia care specialists at the center are Lupita Aguirre, admissions director; Ross Brantner, director of rehab services; Morgiana Correa, activity director; Michael Cunningham, maintenance director; Teresa McWhorter, assistant director of nursing; Danielle Papini, dietary manager; and Rebecca Viramontes, social services assistant.
