Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our April 2016 winners:


Tina Langley, health information management assistant at Life Care Center of Tucson, Arizona, brought in clothing for a resident who did not have any extra clothes with her when she was admitted to the facility. The resident didn’t have family in the area who could bring her clothes, but Langley took care of that need and befriended her. Langley also accompanied another resident to her orthopedist appointment when the resident didn’t feel well and took care of her so she could still make it to her important follow-up visit.


Lee Guillermo, social worker at Life Care Center of Hilo, Hawaii, provided a resident not only with transitional support but also with personal support. The resident had come to the facility from living on his own, and he had no family to help him sell his apartment and truck. Guillermo stepped in to take phone calls from the real estate agency, help the resident pay his bills and sell his truck. During this time, Guillermo wrote letters to various contacts to try to find any extended family. One distant family member responded and renewed a relationship with the resident, providing additional emotional connection for him. Guillermo did much of this outside his work hours.


Lori Ann Douglas, resident care manager at Alderwood Manor in Spokane, Washington, uses her musical talents to bring joy to the residents. She noticed that a resident was upset, and she brought the resident into the dining room and played the piano to help the resident calm down. Every time she plays the piano, the resident says it’s the most beautiful thing he has ever heard. For another resident, Douglas started singing, and he sang back to her in a duet.
